Austrians in New York - Part III aka Central Park West
Sun, 2010-03-07Beautiful Sunday. No snow. About 15 degrees Celsius. I woke up at 8 AM and went running in the Prospect Park (Brooklyn).
Later on I took the subway to Central Park West and met Alex and Claudia. We had breakfast and walked later on through Central Park. I was quite busy there, because a lot of people used the beautiful sunday to spend some hours in the Park.
Alex left us at 3 PM and I went shopping later on (Besides hundreds of other stores there are also a couple of H&M in NY).
Austrians in New York - Part II
Sat, 2010-03-06After only 4 hours of sleep I got up at 7:30. We booked the Statue of Liberty Island tour which started at 9 AM. After an hot coffee from Starbucks (there are plenty of these stores in NY) we went on the ferry. There is a boat trip from Manhattan to Liberty Island. We walked around the island and took some photos from Mrs. Liberty. Contrary to the girls I and Alex could not go inside the statue.
Later on we went to Ellis Island - the former immigration point of the United States. It was not so spectacular and so we went back to Manhattan.

First week at work
Sat, 2010-02-27My first week at EnergyHub is over and it was really great. We have flexitime and I normally work 9 - 5.
I spent the first 2 days with setting up my computer, work environment and the project I am currently working on. There are 5 people in the web development team, which I am in. Altogether about 17 people are currently working for EnergyHub.
I have a really fast computer - Intel iCore i750 4x (8x) 2,67 Ghz, 6 Gbyte RAM and 2 Full HD (1920x1280) TFT Displays.
...Brooklyn and Manhattan
Fri, 2010-02-26I spent the first 4 days in New York to get settled down. I walked a lot in Brooklyn and went also to Manhattan twice. Unfortunately the weather was really bad at the first 2 days. Look at the pictures. There was plenty of snow here in NY.
Some shops and also the CHASE bank were closed on Friday. So I went on Saturday again in town to open a bank account.
First day in the states
Sun, 2010-04-25After an 8 hours flight and approximately a bottle of red vine, I arrived safely at the Newark International Airport in New Jersey. It was already half past 7 PM when I left the airport.
I took the bus, train and subway to Brooklyn to reach my current accommodation at Bergen Street, Brooklyn in New York.
Megan was waiting for me. I reached the flat at 9 P.M. and was already pretty tired. It was 3 o'clock in the morning according European Mean Time. I talked with Megan and Aurore - the other roommate from France - and went to bed at midnight.
